This week of my internship was a much slower week as we are transitioning from the preparation to starting actual work. I continued my review of materials and goals from last week as well as met with my supervisor, Mrs. Sabrina Magnuson. Most of our time this week was spent planning out the rest of the internship and establishing a set of expectations. While my regular job winds down, the next few weeks will be when the workload of this project will expand. I am looking forward to taking a more active role and gaining the experience I know this internship can provide.
Moving forward, our plan is for me to receive a set of materials each week that I will work with at my own convenience with a set due date. Also, I will meet with Mrs. Magnuson directly every week to share my findings or discuss any issues with the project. I will be included in project-wide Zoom meetings so I can experience how larger problems are discussed and dealt with, as well as see the beginning planning stages for the next book. As time goes on and I become increasingly competent with the material my role will become larger until I am trusted with hands-on editing and cold reading work. The opportunity to gain practical editing skills as well as viewing how companies like this are organized will be incredibly valuable. This is what I am looking forward to the most being a part of this project.
This was a very light week in terms of actual work but was a necessary step in preparing for the future. Now that the plans are in place I feel I will be able to move forward with clear direction and understandable standards. This project has been incredibly welcoming, and I am excited to be a part of it. In the coming weeks there will be much more to talk about.
